Our story
We know what it's like when the lights suddenly go out
Your phone is on a few per cent, the internet has gone quiet, it's dark outside and you have no idea what's happening or how long it will last. A blackout, a storm or a network failure can catch you out at home, on the road or at the allotment.
That's why we started MAYDRIX. We want being prepared to be simple: no huge rucksack, no survival skills and no kit nobody knows how to use. We choose things that work without a plug socket, fit in a drawer and are to hand when you need to help yourself or someone close to you.
We're starting with a 4-in-1 emergency radio. Over time, more essentials for a home emergency kit will follow.

Get in touchWhy do I need a radio if I have a phone?
To work, a phone needs three things at once: a charged battery, power to charge it and a network signal. In a major outage, all three often fail. FM and AM radio picks up the signal straight from the transmitter, without internet or a SIM card, so you can still hear news and announcements. You can charge MAYDRIX with the crank or sunlight, and in return it can give your phone an emergency top-up.
How do I charge MAYDRIX?
There are three ways. Day to day, charge it with a USB-C cable like your phone; this is the quickest method. When there's no power, fold out the crank on the back: 3-5 minutes of cranking gives enough power to listen to the radio or use the torch. During the day, the solar panel on top slowly tops up the 2000 mAh battery without any cable. That way you never depend on a single power source.
Which bundle should I choose?
1 radio is enough for one home. 2 radios are handy if you want one at home and one at your parents' or in the car, and you pay less for each radio. 3 radios give the lowest price per radio: home, car and parents, or the allotment.
What if the radio isn't right for me?
You have 14 days to cancel your order without giving a reason. E-mail contact@maydrix.com with your order number and send the radio back, and we'll refund you within 14 days of receiving it back (or proof that you've returned it). If the product is faulty, your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply and we cover the costs. Full details are on our Returns and Faulty items pages.
